From Courier-Record

From  1986 to 1994 I was a feature writer and photographer for the Courier-Record in Blackstone. These are our stories. How quickly our friends and family can fade into the archives of our town. So I’m digging these old stories out and re framing them for the Internet where they can once more be shared and good times not so long forgotten.

My eight years at CR were invaluable for there I learned how to capture compelling images and write for a point and a punch. Here was the ground that launched who I am today. I guess this is why I love summer and fall giant dahlias because I’m certainly a late bloomer.

It was also at the Courier Record that I met and fell in love with Blackstone, my adopted home town. Before CR I was still living in a nomad’s mind that imagined a better place over the horizon,  but when Blackstone came into my life, I planted my flag and said this was home. I will move no more forever. Blackstone became my reference point, a place to anchor my body while my soul was free to roam and learn to expand through writing and photography.

I discovered Blackstone by writing about Blackstone and the people who lived in this area. If it moved I wrote about it, and if it didn’t move, I took its picture. This was a creative relationship, me and Blackstone, and to this day she keeps revealing herself to me as I strive to make her look and feel good about herself.

So enjoy these stories I wrote when I was a fresh flower in the spring of my writing career.
